Potte
Primitive Potter width=ry is one of the oldest crafts known to man, dating back to prehistoric times, some as old as 10000 B.C.  In fact, the wheel was invented, not for carts and wagons, but as a tool to ancient potters.  In some parts of the world, pottery is still made using primitive techniques that have been in use for thousands of years.

Today, contemporary potters have equipment available that simplifies and improves the process of creating a piece of pottery, but the basic talent and skills required are much the same as in prehistoric times.  Essentially, clay is molded and shaped into something useful or of artistic value.

Pottery can be many things to many people.  For some, namely production potters, it is their livelihood.  For others, pottery is a source of enjoyment and stress release.  There is nothing quite like the feeling gotten when a piece turns out as desired or better than desired.  However, much of the joy of pottery comes in the shaping and manipulation of the clay.  The feel of the clay in the hands is a source of enjoyment for some.  Pottery is also a form of expression.  The potter's personality can often be seen in his or her pieces.  The mystery of pottery is seen when the final product only barely resembles the conceptual idea, but has changed and evolved while in the formation process.  The varied methods that can be used to create pottery allow for a wide range of creative ideas.Pots

We live with pottery and use it daily.  Sometimes we take it for granted.  From everyday dinner dishes to flower pots, to the ceramic ash tray or soap dish, to coffee cups and lamp bases, to collectors plates and even the ceramic heat shield for the space shuttle, pottery is in all of our lives, everyday.
